What is Financial Life Planning?
Financial Life Planning is a holistic approach to financial planning that leads with the PERSON not their money. It may sound obvious that a financial planner should first understand a client’s fundamental goals and values before talking about their investments or retirement plans. But the fact is most people have dreams for their lives that are closely guarded and beliefs about money and their own talents that are unexamined. Those beliefs often frustrate the most well-intentioned planning process. Financial Planners are also more comfortable talking about rate of returns, estate planning and likes and have little exposure to the human side of money.
Financial Life Planning is the art or human side of financial planning. In Financial Life Planning, we discover a client’s deepest goals and aspirations through a process of structured inquiry. Then, using a mix of professional and relationship skills, we resolve the obstacles to those goals, create a plan, and guide the client to the accomplishment of their goals.
Clients love it because they feel understood. We like it because we have much more satisfying relationships and more referrals. It’s an exceptionally positive experience on both side.
